What is everyone's views on weight training? Should one be doing 2-3 days a week strengthening the muscles or should one just be focusing on the swimming, biking, running? Thanks!

I do 2x a week during my base periods and 1x a week during the rest of the year. I use weights as my day off, and more of a source of core strength and stability than muscle building.

Most of what I do does not need gym machines, just a stability ball and a range of free weights, but I often find myself at the gym so I dont smell up my dorm room, or house.

A usual workout is:
10 min (1.25 mile) run, usually on a treadmill.
Quick stretch set.
10 min on the erg (rowing machine).
Longer stretch set.
Then circuit of leg press (squats with weights), seated row (lat pull back with weights), plank and variations, pushups, crunches, pull ups.
Each I do only 2 or 3x
End with 20 min. spin

Consistent weight training is definitely important, and core training especially is the foundation for multisport training in general. Friel one-on-one training always involves core strengthening before multisport becomes a concentration, as it leads to better form, muscle memory in triathlon, nutrition conversion, etc.

Hope this helps.
